Unfinished Live

SEP 23 – 25, 2021
Visiting Partner Program
A convening of technologists, journalists, thought leaders, and artists to tackle consequential questions of our time

About this program

Held online and in person at The Shed, Unfinished Live brings together speakers from across disciplines to accelerate the social impact of ideas by fostering conversation, challenging the status quo, and constructing new paths to action. First launched in 2020, this year’s Unfinished Live will explore the possibilities of a decentralized web and a decentralized operating system for a society that shares power among its people. Together with host Baratunde Thurston, speakers and audiences will imagine what can be achieved when digital life opens doors to new fields and new actors, giving voice to diverse communities and leading to a more inclusive, fairer, and better world.

In accordance with the New York City mandate, visitors 12 years and older must be vaccinated against Covid-19, and visitors two years and older must wear a mask. Proof of vaccination may include CDC Vaccination Card (or photo), NYC COVID Safe app, New York State Excelsior Pass, NYC Vaccination Record, or an official immunization record from outside NYC or the US. Unfinished Camp: Live Conversation, SEP 24

Unfinished Camp provides a global platform for young contemporary artists to explore the intersection of art and technology, while collectively imagining a thriving and equitable civil society for the digital age. To launch this collaborative digital initiative, nine organizations invited 27 artists and collectives from Botswana to Brazil to produce a short video answering the question: What is the future of art in a decentralized world?

At Unfinished Live on September 24, Emma Enderby, The Shed’s chief curator, will moderate a conversation among some of the artists involved, including Thero Makepe of Botswana, Gabriella Torres-Ferrer of Germany, and Kiyan Williams of the US. Also participating in this session will be Bettina Korek, CEO of the Serpentine, Adeze Wilford, assistant curator at The Shed, and Melanie Kress, associate curator at High Line Arts.
