Lightscape: Sun Ra Arkestra

AUG 13 AT 8 PM

About this production

The Sun Ra Arkestra is a legendary Afrofuturist ensemble weaving together jazz, free improvisation, and cosmic vision into something that defies category. Helmed by 102-year-old Marshall Allen, the Arkestra leads listeners on an intergalactic sonic journey—unbound, uninhibited, and unlike anything else in music. Their soundscapes are deeply rhythmic and hypnagogic, conjuring experiences that feel genuinely once-in-a-lifetime.

Founded in Chicago in the mid-1950s, the Sun Ra Arkestra continues to push the edges of contemporary sound through warm, powerful, and fearlessly improvisational performance. When you hear the Arkestra, you quickly understand what Sun Ra always knew: space is the place.
