How can I find out what is happening at The Shed?

What is The Shed? Is The Shed a museum or a performing arts center?

The Shed is a new cultural institution of and for the 21st century. We produce and welcome innovative art and ideas, across all forms of creativity, to build a shared understanding of our rapidly changing world and a more equitable society. Learn more on our About page.

The Shed is a new model for an arts center that is designed to support creative ambitions across all art forms, including both the visual arts and performing arts.

How will I know if a program is appropriate for my child?

Call us at (646) 455-3494 or email info@theshed.org for recommendations on child-friendly shows and any content that a parent may want to consider when bringing a child to The Shed.

Who designed The Shed?

The Shed was designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Lead Architect, and Rockwell Group, Collaborating Architect.

Can I see the building move?

The Shed’s shell will move a few times each year to accommodate programming needs. Any occasions on which the public is invited to watch The Shed move will be announced on our social media accounts. Follow us on X, Facebook, and Instagram.

Is there food and drink at The Shed?

No outside food or drink is permitted in the building.

Cedric’s at The Shed, operated by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group, is an all-day bar and casual eatery in The Doctoroff Lobby inside our 30th Street entrance featuring a vibrant, shareable menu of cocktails and food. Food and drink are not permitted outside the lobby.

What should I wear to go to The Shed?

Please come as you are, and wear whatever you like.

For seated performances, you will be asked to remove any hats or items that are blocking the view of those seated behind you.

Is The Shed accessible to persons with disabilities?

Can I take pictures or record video?

Photography and video policies will vary by program. Please check the website, your program, or listen to pre-show announcements for more information.

Performances may be recorded by The Shed for broadcast or promotion. Your attendance at an event shall be deemed as your consent to have your image or likeness appear in any video display or reproduction in whole or in part.

Is there a coat check?

A complimentary coat check is available seasonally on the Mezzanine level. Bags and backpacks, including luggage, larger than 11 x 17 inches must be checked, and we’re happy to accommodate bags as space allows. Please email info@theshed.org if you have questions, or ask a member of our Visitor Experience team on arrival at The Shed.

Will my bag be searched?

Yes, your bags may be searched by our security staff.

Can I bring my group to The Shed?

Group ticket sales vary based on programming. Please email info@theshed.org and we’re happy to answer your group sales questions.

The Shed does not offer group tours of our venue.

Can I hold my event at The Shed?

Yes, The Shed has an event space and a rental program. To learn more about entertaining at The Shed, please visit the Rentals page or email rentals@theshed.org for more information.

Is The Shed part of Hudson Yards?

The Shed is an independent, nonprofit organization located on city-owned land in the Hudson Yards area, but it is not part of the Hudson Yards real estate development.

Is the Vessel part of The Shed?

The Vessel and The Shed are adjacent but are operated independently of each other.

Ticketing

Do I need a ticket to visit The Shed?

Tickets are required for both visual and performing arts programming. Tickets can be booked online, over the phone at (646) 455-3494, or in person during business hours.

How can I get the best price on tickets at The Shed?

Ticket prices will adjust up and down based on demand as the event date approaches. Become a Shed member for early access to on-sales and to save up to 15% on ticket purchases.

I didn’t buy my ticket through The Shed. Is that ok?

The Shed is not able to guarantee the validity of tickets purchased through unauthorized third parties (e.g. ticket brokers, StubHub, SeatGeek, etc.). We recommend purchasing tickets directly from The Shed or TodayTix to avoid fraudulent tickets.

How many tickets can I buy at once?

Ticket orders are limited to six (6) tickets, maximum. For larger groups, please email info@theshed.org or call us at (646) 455-3494.

Does The Shed offer IDNYC memberships?

Yes. To apply for an IDNYC membership at The Shed, please visit this page.

Does The Shed charge ticketing fees?

Ticketing fees apply for tickets purchased on our website or by phone. Handling fees are waived for Builder 2 members and above, and for all purchases made in person at our box office. Consult box office hours.

Can I get a refund or exchange my ticket?

All sales are final, and refunds are not offered. Please email us at info@theshed.org with any questions.

I can’t find my ticket. What should I do?

Digital tickets are generally available 72 hours before your ticketed performance. Please log into your Shed account to view your digital tickets via our website. Call us at (646) 455-3494 or email us at info@theshed.org with any issues or questions.

I can’t attend a performance. Can I donate my tickets?

Tickets for Shed programming can be donated for resale at least 24 hours before the date of the performance. As a nonprofit organization, donated tickets are considered a tax-deductible contribution to The Shed, and we will issue a tax receipt for the face value of the tickets. Donated tickets must be returned at least 24 hours before the date of the performance. Please contact us at info@theshed.org for more details or to initiate your ticket donation.

What if I’m late for the performance, can I still attend?

Late entry varies by program. Please check the web page of the program you’re attending for further details.

How do I become a Shed member?

How do I purchase a discounted membership?

There are discount memberships available for artists, students, seniors, and military families. Please visit the box office or email members@theshed.org with proof to take advantage of these discounts.
